Tech Note 248: Energy recovery wheel, variable speed
ID:LVD-EOTKN248U-EN
,
REV:A
English
Energy recovery wheels in AHUs are used to transfer conditioned air energy before being expelled from a building and reuse that energy back into the fresh air being brought in. By recovering this energy, the system overall efficiency is increased. To further reduce energy consumed and provide frost protection, the wheel rotation speed can be varied with a VFD. This technical note details wiring, sensors and programming for an ACH580 drive to control the speed of an energy recovery wheel based off supply and exhaust air temperature sensors.

Tech Note 249: Network Hand Mode for ACH580 & ACH180
ID:LVD-EOTKN249U-EN
,
REV:A
English
“Hand” mode is a well-established term in the HVACR industry describing an operational state where the normal “Auto” control location, typically hardwired inputs, is overridden at the user control panel to place a drive under local control. Using this familiar term, a similar control mode is introduced called “Network Hand” mode, where this control is taken by the BAS controller to place a drive under network control.

Tech Note 246: Design A and B motors with drives
ID:LVD-EOTKN246U-EN
,
REV:A
English
Historically, variable frequency drive specifications have had a requirement for the drive to be able to run a NEMA Design B motor. Whether an HVACR or Water & Wastewater application, this specification item is often glanced over as most motors applied to fan or pump applications have been Design B motors. With the push to increase the efficiency of AC motors, it is becoming more common to see NEMA Design A motors applied to fans and pumps. For example, the ABB / Baldor SP4 induction motor series has IE4 efficiency and uses Design A motors. This technical note discusses the differences between Design A and B motors related to fan and pump applications.
