This paper explains the details behind sizing a drive to control multiple motors, protection devices required, cable length considerations & drive commissioning. It also highlights the benefit of using the ACH580's assistants for these systems.

Parameter 95.01 Supply voltage has different default settings based on if the drive is a 6-pulse drive or a ULH drive. Parameter 95.02 Adaptive voltage limits is defaulted enabled for all drive types and voltage classes. Depending on the combination of settings between parameters 95.01 and 95.02 different undervoltage, overvoltage, and brake chopper triggers exist. Under certain circumstances adjustment of these two parameters may be necessary to allow the drive to function properly based off of site specific input voltage conditions.

This document describes situations where a disconnect is wired between the drive and motor. Situations with an auxiliary contact are reviewed, along with a drive feature that eliminates the need for the aux contact.

PM motors represent some of the most efficient and versatile motor technologies in the market when paired with the right drive technology. The ACH580 can operate an internal(embedded) permanent magnet motor (IPM) or a surface mounted PM motor (SMPM). We will review the parameters to commission these motors. We will discuss troubleshooting scenarios and steps.

There are many fan and pump applications where multiple sets of a drive and motor pairs operate where system redundancy is manually controlled. The software feature IPC in ACH580 and ACQ580 can be used to enhance the existing application to provide automatic redundancy. This technical note provides the details on how to program the drives to take advantage of this automatic system redundancy.
